At Calvary Baptist Church, we strive to emphasize and implement the following six points:

The Preeminence of Christ

Colossians 1:18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

Our foremost desire as a church is to magnify and glorify the person and work of Jesus Christ in all aspects of life and ministry. Our hearts’ cry is that of the psalmist in Psalm 115:1: Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.

The Power of the Gospel

Romans 1:16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the central and most essential message of the Bible. We unashamedly declare that sinful men can only be made right with a holy God by grace through faith in the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Great Commission declared in Matthew 28:19-20 is our foundation for persuasively preaching the gospel in our own community and supporting others who are doing so around the world.

The Preaching of God’s Word

2 Timothy 3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

We believe in the primacy of preaching, through which God has ordained to save sinners and sanctify believers. Our firm belief in the sufficiency of Scripture and God’s ordained method of preaching persuades us against entertaining others with short, shallow motivational talks; comical and emotional dramas; or loud, repetitive, sentimental music.

The Purity of Life and Worship

Titus 2:12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”

We believe that Christians should strive to live a life of holiness, forsaking the sinful practices and pursuits of this world. Likewise, we believe that the church should not compromise in its doctrine or practice, but, rather, seek to worship and serve God with reverence and godly fear.

The Priority of Prayer

Colossians 4:2Continue in prayer…”

We believe in the power of individual and corporate prayer. We are convinced that without the blessing of God upon our lives and ministries, all of our labor for the Lord will be in vain.

The Passionate Pursuit of God

Psalms 84:2 “…my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”

We believe that our chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Such a belief causes us to passionately seek and know Him! Our primary purpose for existence as a church is not solely to provide a place for others to meet new people and enjoy fellowship with one another, but, more importantly, to worship the One who is worthy of all our praise and adoration.
